Position OverviewReporting to the General Manager, the Corporate Technology Manager will work out of our Edmonton facility and will lead and manage all aspects of technology (hardware and software) within the company.The Corporate Technology Manager is responsible for developing state of the art scale automation applications offering communication to third party platforms, efficiency enhancements and the integration of data management solutions.Must be hands on with respect to development of hardware design and the configuration of software for technology distributed by the company.

This position offers the unique ability to build a team of professionals from the ground up that will be required to meet the ever-increasing demand for more technical solutions.Technology is viewed as one of the most important growth opportunities for our organization and as such will require the Corporate Technology Manager to develop, communicate and implement technical strategies to ensure profitability, exceed customer expectations and achieve the company’s vision.

The Corporate Technology Manager will work closely with the functional business managers to drive business results, achieve productivity with operations and sales, and deliver excellent service to our customers while achieving revenue and expense targets.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesDesigns, develops and modifies technical software and controls for all technology within the company, including proto-types and carries them through testing in the fieldDevelop technical standards which are to be followed throughout the entire companyResearches technology, performance and technical options which could improve our overall offeringsEnsure that any external design, software or hardware, are undertaken by suitably qualified professionals which are provided with clearly defined scope documentation culminating in solutions meeting the defined requirements.Take the lead in driving a culture of continuous improvement within design and the wider work communityConsults with internal departments to understand the needs of all and integrate into daily work and systemsPerform work in accordance with Precision Scale HS& E procedure and policyAs required hire, manage and develop a qualified team of work professionalsProvide design and system insight into hardware and software solutionsImprove the effectiveness of the Company’s internal systemsProvide technical support to operations in the most efficient manner for all concernedOversee and coordinate production of mechanical, electronic, and software components of the Company’s scale technology systemsSet team and individual priorities in alignment with the corporate business plan and daily operational requirementsEnsure that Corporate technical standards and policy are being adhered to throughout the companyMentor junior staff on design techniques and methodologiesDevelop Factory Acceptance and Site Acceptance Testing procedures for systems designed and manufactured for customer applicationsAssist the operational group in training and mentoring of field technical staff fostering an environment of continual growthMonitor corporate technical offerings for obsolescence or technical difficulties and have a continual plan for rectificationCreate standardized software configurations for products (Indicators) purchased and resold from our manufacturers.Manage the drafting department and ensure that all schematics and mechanical assemblies follow corporate standardsAudit and Manage all designs including internal or external projects for solution fit and functionalityReport regularly on key aspects of the business, in accordance with routine and ad-hoc reporting requirementsEstablish and delegate work assignments to team membersWork with the leadership team to tailor action plans for each department and monitor progress towards key performance indicators, milestones and goals.Effectively plan and budget for capital expenditures.Ensure a system of controls is in place to protect the company’s intellectual property and minimize risks.Participate in sales presentations to large or high-profile customers.Maintain awareness of both the external and internal competitive landscape including opportunities for expansion, new customers, market growth, and industry developments.Maintain strong customer relations and satisfaction; proactively and diligently work to ensure customer problems are resolved quickly.Develop and execute technical growth strategies for developing business and achieving the company’s sales goals.Build, develop, lead, mentor, and manage the technical team while creating a collaborative environment with other departments to deliver profitable growth.Represent the organization within the local community and participate in related activities.Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.Support human resources initiatives and activities for direct reports including recruitment, on-boarding, performance management, employee development, training and general support.

Minimum Qualifications / SkillsBachelor of Computer Science or Bachelor of Computer Engineering from a recognized University with 10 years work experienceManagement experience of 5 years or greater with direct management of a technical teamMinimum 5-year practical work experience with electronics, automation or instrumentation hardware systems in an industrial environmentC and .NET Framework.Windows CE 6.5 and WinForms would be an assetVisual Studio and GIT Source ControlExperience developing software that communicates via serial and TCP/IP based communication protocolsProficient with SQL databasesDetailed knowledge and understanding with mobile applications that interface with software and hardwareComfortable working with industrial hardware components such as indicators or kiosks that consist of PC and Industrial componentsAbility to work independently in the field with support from operationsExtensive experience with system design, installation and commissioning of systems with the support of operationsStrong technical writing capabilityProficiency with CAD based drafting programsStrong trouble-shooting skills in both hardware and software environments Preferred Qualifications / SkillsExperience in truck scale attended and unattended automation systemsDemonstrated leadership in a technical environmentProject ManagementCommunication ProficiencyPerformance Management experienceStrong communication, presentation and relationship building skills.

Fluency in English is a must.Ability to quickly learn about new products and concepts.Strong analytical skills with attention to detailStrong entrepreneurial/self-motivated personality, with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.Demonstrated commitment to personal and professional growth outside of work.
