The Manager, Engineering leads and directs the Engineering Department for Brother Mobile Solutions (BMS) with the goal of ensuring effective individual and small team performance while driving strategic direction for the engineering team (software & mechanical).

This position spearheads innovative initiatives for customers that create value from a sales and product management team perspective.

Additionally, this role manages product customization, the engineering process (testing, evaluation, planning management), and oversees high-level technical support as well as risk management reporting & compliance.

Furthermore, this role liaisons with our international headquarters in Japan (BIL) in order to manage US-based product planning, issue testing, root cause, resolution, and more.Duties and Responsibilities Engineering Team Management Manage and lead the BMS Engineering Department, comprising of both software (iOS/Android/Windows) as well as mechanical engineers Oversee and prioritize daily work, provide direction to subordinates, and serve s an escalation point for issues, concerns, conflicts Ensure engineering team goals are accomplished effectively and in accordance with all necessary guidelines Plan, prioritize, and manage workloads to ensure optimum delivery/service level to customers & stakeholders Coach, mentor, guide, and develop team members to motivate, retain, and grow them within the organization Participate in leadership meetings and work cross-functionally; build strong relationships with stakeholders Product Planning Interact frequently with our international headquarters in Japan (BIL) and act as a leader/liaison for the BMS Engineering group Participate in product issue testing, failure root cause, and resolution Manage fault reports, defective component returns, assist BIL in root-cause failure analysis and resolutions Perform future software & tool planning Collaborate with Product Managers on interface and planning process Innovation & Customization Lead innovative initiatives for customers that create value and drive revenue Provide strategic direction for custom firmware, software, and mechanical developments Perform process & drawing reviews for customization Manage domestic hardware and accessory concepts, review, and acquisition Reporting & Compliance Perform risk management reporting and provide recommendations to key stakeholders Maintain compliance on engineering products, customizations, and solutions Management Overall management of staff, ensuring assignments and duties are completed as required Compose and conduct performance reviews Provide guidance, training, mentoring, coaching and development Make recommendations regarding hiring, promoting and terminating Requirements Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software/Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and/or Information Technology/Systems (or equivalent experience) Master’s degree in Engineering Preferred Experience A minimum 7 years combined, relevant experience in the following areas: Managing a team, overseeing daily work and providing coaching/guidance to subordinates Working in an engineering role (primarily software/firmware, with some hardware, and/or mechanical) to develop solutions for commercial or consumer products Working with international partners or stakeholders Software/Technical Skills Strong technical knowledge of software engineering concepts, systems, development platforms, version control, and processes (iOS/Android) Strong technical knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, systems, and processes preferred Other Skills/Knowledge/Abilities Ability to think analytically, creatively, and aggressively in order to align focus, resources and actual execution with short
– and long-term business requirements Ability to proactively manage, drive, and influence programmers and engineers to achieve positive results and solutions progress within a technology environment Ability to act as subject matter expert and provide engineering domain expertise to key stakeholders Ability to build strong relationships, both internally and externally, in order to drive consensus and buy-in around shared goals/objectives Ability to problem-solve through issues or defective applications/mechanisms Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) Excellent presentation skills with the ability to present at all levels of the organization Compensation & Benefits The salary (or hiring) range for this position is $120,000
– $145,000 per year Starting salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity and alignment with market data This position is eligible to participate in the relevant annual Brother Bonus Plan.
