Reporting to the Executive Vice-President, the Director, External Relations will be responsible for directing the company public relations efforts, supporting Fednav’s partnerships and assuring that the company effectively conveys its messages and impact effectively to relevant audience segments, particularly in relations with governments.

In addition, he/she will ensure the leadership and ongoing management of various projects, issues and files.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING | THE ROLE Government Affairs: Develop strategic direction and provides recommendations on public policy matters that may affect Fednav’s activities, involving international and local governments.

Monitors legislative and regulatory matters and develops organizational action plans.

Assist in formulating Fednav’s positions and coordinating its efforts, either directly or through relevant associations.

Maintain, and increase, the Company’s credibility through direct collaboration with governments.

Public Relations: Act as the spokesperson and liaise between Fednav, other organizations and leaders in our industry sector.

Develop stakeholders and network to collect information and develop corporate positions.

Media Relations: Provide strategic media relations plans and carry out media relations outreach for special events, programs and major initiatives.

Regulatory compliance: In coordination primarily with the Operations department, support Fednav’s efforts with regard to regulatory compliance for its maritime activities, in particular for environmental issues.

Participate in the development and implementation of the Company policies, systems, and processes necessary to achieve this.

Association/Committee work: Represent Fednav at relevant meetings and events, and support the Company efforts in maintaining a leading role within the maritime industry and community.

Sustainability and Environmental issues: In collaboration with the Vice President, Strategy and Sustainability assist and participate in various industry initiatives, working groups, and committees involved in the promotion of green shipping.

The ideal candidate has: WHAT YOU BRING | THE PERSON University Degree in a related discipline or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Minimum of 10 years prior experience in similar role.

The ability to quickly understand, the language and implications of international and national laws, regulations, conventions, etc.

Strong knowledge of legislative process.

Knowledge and experience with sustainability and environmental issues.

Familiarity with governmental and/or shipping industry and/or environmental groups or agencies and personal or professional contacts within these sectors.

Demonstrated experience serving as spokesperson for an organization and a track record of success.

Superior writing and public speaking skills.

Exceptional interpersonal and influential skills.

Fluency in both French and English (oral and written).

Good analytical skills.

Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.

Ability to learn quickly and open-mindedness.

Some understanding of ship operations.

High personal ethical standards.
