Academic Associate (Biomedical Engineer)

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at McGill University is seeking outstanding candidates for an Academic Associate position. Our department is creating a new, exciting Master’s program in translational biomedical engineering. The program aims to provide biomedical engineers with skills required to succeed in the medical device industry, and will be composed of courses on patents, regulatory affairs, clinical trials, business, and biomedical engineering, as well as a four-month internship with a local medical device company. The successful candidate will work on the development of this exciting program. The Academic Associate will have the following duties:

  • Contribute to the detailed development of the program’s curriculum.
  • Lead efforts to obtain University and Provincial approvals for the program.
  • Build collaborations with Montréal InVivo, MEDTEQ, and MEDEC as part of the program.
  • Lead efforts in collaboration with McGill Teaching and Learning Services to develop an electronic Internship Management System.
  • Lead efforts to create an advisory board for the masters program that constitutes of leaders in the local biomedical engineering industry.
  • Lead fund-raising efforts including sponsorships from private and public entities.
  • Reach out to Quebec biomedical engineering companies to host students’ internships.
  • Negotiate and develop contracts with industry for the internship program.
  • Lead efforts to develop strategies to facilitate retention of our students in Quebec biomedical engineering sector.
  • Coordinate advertisement activities for the new masters program.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required qualifications: Master’s Degree and professional designation or PhD in Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering with a minimum two years of industrial experience as a Biomedical Engineer. Junior and senior engineers are encouraged to apply.
