The YMCAs of Québec day camps offer fun-filled activities that are both physically and intellectually stimulating. The Y has long been known for its child development and youth programs for children. Our activities are designed with the needs and interests of each age group in mind. Our high-quality day camp programs are offered to numerous children at nine of our Y centers.

Reporting to the Camp Coordinator, our Camp Counsellors work with children aging from 5 to12. They deliver a memorable and safe camp experience through the planning and animation of original and age-appropriate programming. They participate in the full life of camp as well as establish and maintain positive relationships with the children, parents/guardians and the camp team.

In order to help everyone, reach their potential, and to ensure a safe and fun camp environment, the Y offers more than fifty hours of training to camp staff to ensure that we have the best summer ever! Working at camp will; help you develop your leadership skills, will provide you with professional work experience and will allow you to make a difference in a child’s life. AND, you have access to the YMCA sports facilities throughout the summer to workout, swim or attend group classes!



  • Acts as a positive role model for all campers, parents/guardians, participants and YMCA camp staff.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with campers, parents/guardians and the camp team
  • Plans, coordinates and animates fun, original and age-appropriate camp programming for his/her group in collaboration with his/her co-Counsellor.
  • Ensures that children are safely supervised at all times and that the camp environment is always safe, secure and clean.
  • Accompanies campers in the water during aquatic activities such as swimming lessons or open swim
  • Communicates regularly with parents/guardians, and responds to parents’/guardians’ inquiries and questions in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Attends and participates in all required camp meetings and trainings, including weekly staff meetings and welcome telephone calls.



  • Experience working with children and youth
  • DAFA certificat – Diplôme d’aptitude aux fonctions d’animateur (an asset)
  • Experience working in a residential setting or day camp (an asset).
  • Comfortable swimming and/or being in the pool.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (reduced price with the YMCA).
  • Proficiency in French and English.
  • Fluency in a third language (an asset).
  • Have no criminal record in connection with employment.
