Assistant Coordinator, Day Camp

YMCA of Quebec

This is a Full-time position in Montréal, QC posted February 11, 2019.


The YMCAs of Québec day camps offer fun‐filled activities that are both physically and intellectually stimulating. The Y has long been known for its child development and youth programs. Our activities are designed with the needs and interests of each age group in mind. Our high‐quality day camp programs are offered to numerous children at eight of our Y centers.

Reporting to the Coordinator of Day Camps, the Camp Assistant Coordinator ensures the successful development, coordination and operations for the summer day camp program at his/her Y center. S/he supervises, coaches and supports a team of Counsellors. S/he will participate in the full life of camp, including pre-camp preparation and trainings, staff recruitment and administrative tasks. S/he establishes and maintains positive relationships with the children, parents and the camp team, and ensures that all participants have a positive YMCA camp experience. S/he articulates the uniqueness and holistic nature of the YMCA’s philosophy, mission and vision.


  • Recruits, interviews and hires camp staff in conjunction with his/her supervisor.
  • Assists with camp promotion initiatives and camp registration.
  • Assists his/her supervisor with the preparation and delivery of camp training.
  • Acts as a positive role model for all campers, participants and YMCA camp staff.
  • Ensures successful and high‐quality camp programming in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Prepares and delivers all camp meetings and trainings in collaboration with his/her supervisor.
  • Ensures that children are safely supervised at all times and that the camp environment is always safe, secure and clean.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with campers, parents and the camp team.
  • Assists with administrative duties and responsibilities.
  • Adhere to the YMCA’s Child Protection Policies and Procedures.
  • Understand and integrate the value of philanthropy in both specific position and Association, and participate in the Annual Campaign and/or other fundraising events.

Status: Seasonal

Salary: 14,45$ /hour


March to May: Part‐time – Flexible schedule

June to August: Full‐time – Monday to Friday – 40 hours per week

  • 18 years of age + by the first day of camp.
  • Minimum of three years’ work experience in a residential or day camp.
  • Experience working with children and youth in a community or school setting (an asset).
  • Experience working with children with special needs (an asset)
  • Experience in staff supervision.
  • In progress or completion of a collegial and/or university degree in Child Development, Education, Leisure Studies, Psychology (an asset) Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Proficiency in French and English.
  • Have no criminal record in connection with employment.
