JOB PURPOSE The Psychiatrist will be a keystone in our multi-disciplinary medical team, supporting colleagues, maintaining a clinical practice, and potentially participating in 3 rd party research and practice.

Additionally, they hold regular discussions with patients and colleagues to diagnose mental disorders or assess a patient’s response to treatment.

The Psychiatrist will work in collaboration with a team of multidisciplinary clinicians to ensure optimum patient care and can offer ketamine infusions for depression in collaboration with our anesthesia team.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assesses and evaluates patient medical and psychosocial conditions.

Develops and implements treatment plans for patients with chronic pain, including prescription of psychotropic medications, ketamine infusions, self-management/psychotherapy, etc.

Monitors and evaluates treatment results.

Evaluates patients by interviewing patient, family, and other persons; conducting physical examinations; observing behaviors; reviewing medical history and related documents; selecting, administering, and interpreting psychological tests; and ordering laboratory tests and evaluating results.

Develops and helps implement treatment plans by determining nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders and establishing treatment goals and methodologies.

Treats patients by utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and medications; discussing progress toward goals with patients; providing instructions; monitoring effect of medications; and supervising staff provision of services.

Maintains interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress, and consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers.

Assures quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standards, rules, accreditation requirements, and legal regulations; participating in utilization reviews.

Improves staff competence by providing training and discussions regarding the interrelationship between psychosocial and physiological problems, psychotropic medications, crisis intervention, and related issues.

Maintains historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events and writing summaries.

Updates job knowledge by participating in continuing medical educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

Prescribe, follow-up and review all medications.

Complete medical documentation and data in the clinic’s electronic medical record in a timely and professional fashion.

Maintain confidentiality of all patient information according to applicable regulations.

Maintain the highest standard of professional ethics.

Perform other assignments as requested.

Completion of a psychiatric residency or a family medicine/psychiatry residency in an approved residency program.

Minimum 3 years’ working experience with mood disorders and pain management.

Hold a certification number from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry.

Hold an Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) physician billing number.

Experience in a hospital or private clinic environment preferred.

Candidates require a license in good standing and must be able to acquire registration, licensing and applicable CMPA insurance to practice in Ontario.

A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.

Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management team.

Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification preferred.

Experience with Independent Medical Evaluations/Examinations is an asset.

Demonstrated understanding and ability to integrate patient-centered care into clinical practice.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and clinic staff.

Demonstrated ability to be flexible with approach and thinking.

Demonstrated ability in problem-solving and critical thinking.

Able to generate new solutions and develop creative improvements.

Demonstrated ability to assist patients, family members or other clients with concern and empathy; respecting their confidentiality and privacy and communicating in a courteous and respectful manner Excellent communication skills required to speak and write fluently in English ensuring clear and accurate understanding of instructions, information and delivery of care is provided.

Excellent relationship building skills are required.

WORKING CONDITIONS Full time with a minimum of 40 hours per week.

Working with patients and medical staff in a clinical environment.

Working with patients and medical staff through virtual care from home or Allevio’s offices.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS Fast-paced environment.

Frequent assistance of patients including but not limited to supporting their mobility.

Wearing protective equipment as required.
