Laboratory Technician

Job Description:

Under the supervision of Head of Chemical Process, the responsibility of the laboratory technician is to carry out activities pertaining to the preparation of chemical solutions, to execution of trials according to an established protocol, to measurements on several instruments, to compilation and interpretation of results. Among others:

Batch production and trials

  • Prepare test batches on a 65L chemical reactor
  • Validate the correct functioning of the reactor as well as the peripheral equipment
  • Handle chemicals and solvents including hazardous materials
  • Analyze samples by NMR and LC/MS methods
  • Validate parameters and quantities of reagents and solvents before each batch by following the established manufacturing standards
  • Write production reports and keep the traceability register up to date
  • Report any anomaly and malfunction of procedures or equipment

Management of raw materials

  • Receive products ordered including dry ice and liquid nitrogen
  • Maintain the inventory to support the planning of production and testing
  • Conduct quality control of the raw material and the certificates of analysis

Management of finished products

  • Codification of final products and storage
  • Inventory control of finished products
  • Quality control of finished product: LC/MS, NMR, solubility, PH and others
  • Waste management of solvents and chemicals

Maintenance of equipment

  • Performs regular maintenance on various equipment, including LC / MS, pumps, reactor, chiller

General tasks

  • Work with supervisor and team to resolve experimental and equipment issues in a timely manner
  • Develop new laboratory procedures to improve productivity
  • Observe laboratory safety regulations
  • Identify and resolve technical or other problems.

Employment term:

  • Status: permanent, full time
  • Start day: immediate
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada

 Education

  • College Diploma in Laboratory Technique in Chemistry or Biochemistry or any other relevant education

 Knowledge and years of experience required:

  • 1-5 years of experience in laboratory technique in a manufacturing/chemical environment
  • Basic knowledge in handling analytical devices: UV-vis, HPLC, GC-MS
  • Technical skills in calibration of laboratory equipment

 Languages : 

  • Fluency in French and/or English, oral and written.

 Skills:

  • Meticulous attention to detail with organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical ability to analyze and interpret results
  • Self-motivated and able to meet objectives with minimal supervision
  • Great at teamwork
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Hands-on attitude.
