Engineer, Bill of Materials

Centre Technologique Dana Laval

This is a Contract position in Laval, QC posted November 8, 2021.


The Bill of Materials (BOM) Engineer will support the development of electrified powertrain and electric vehicle systems for the Commercial Vehicle Business Unit. The role would be responsible to organize, conduct data analysis, and maintain the bill of materials in Dana ERP systems for vehicle programs.


  • Responsible for maintaining Bills of Materials (BOM) in Dana’s ERP systems.
  • Responsible for change control of BOM in both prototype and production phases of the program
  • Work with Program Managers, Purchasing, Engineering and Manufacturing teams to ensure that the BOM has the correct structure, accuracy, and completeness in the ERP systems.
  • Become proficient in setting up new options and/or create rules in PLM system to support various build configurations with correct BOM content at program milestones
  • Assist Purchasing and Engineering as needed in building and/or troubleshooting BOM costs.
  • Support engineering and prototype staff during the design and prototype phase of new product development
  • Work with Launch/Program/Manufacturing teams to ensure change information is shared with the proper manufacturing teams/sites.
  • Maintain and improve cost accounting to support production and profit analysis; ensure procedures are followed for item cost maintenance.
  • Engage with Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Finance teams to resolve BOM related issues.
  • Support part procurement activities including part ordering and receipt of parts working alongside manufacturing team.



  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or related field required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with ERP tools and processes.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with Bill of Materials.
  • Experience in the automotive industry preferred; focus on ERP tools and processes
  • Technical knowledge of product structure and processes.
  • Proven experience managing complex stakeholder requirements and production program launch.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build relationships with all functions and levels across the organization
  • Continuously adapt and prioritize constantly changing environment and business requirements.




  • Strong problem-solving skills, including ability to identify and resolve issues and challenges.
  • Proficient with ERP systems (Genius and Oracle an asset)
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels within and outside Dana in a professional manner.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively on projects and assignments
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills required in French and English
  • Strong organization, scheduling and facilitation skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in order to meet deadlines and goals
