Team Leader, Technical Publications and Training

For the past 35 years, GIRO has established itself as a leader in the development of optimization software designed to improve productivity in the public transport and postal distribution industries.

Located in Montreal, GIRO has currently more than 350 full-time employees, mainly professionals in IT and operational research, serving over 300 public transportation and postal companies found in 27 countries (Montreal, New York, Los Angeles, Brussels, Barcelona, Sydney, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc.).You are part of a team that is responsible for the development of our software products. Development is carried out in a Microsoft environment and in accordance with recognized software engineering and quality assurance practices (specifications, prototyping, technical reviews, etc.)

You are part of the Documentation and Client-Training team, working with developers to ensure the progression and improvement of the documentation and training associated with a highly specialized suite of software.

Main responsibilities

Team management:

  • Plan the team members’ work in line with priorities. Identify the resource requirements.
  • Ensure that all relevant information is obtained and relayed to the team members.
  • Supervise and coach team members and see to the development of their skills.
  • Be responsible for performance evaluations and for defining team members’ individual objectives.
  • Be responsible for directing the team’s efforts and ensuring that the team runs smoothly. Manage requests (work schedules, time off, conflicts, equipment, etc.) and ensure that internal policies and processes are respected.

Technical writing:

  • Do the writing in English of user guides, user interfaces, update notices and online help for our software products.
  • Edit documentation and propose necessary changes to ensure consistency between different functionalities.
  • Participate in all stages of publishing user guides.


  • Lead the implementation of a structured DITA, a Content Management System (CMS) and a Help Authoring Tool (HAT).
  • Lead the implementation of a new training offer (classroom and online) for our entire software suite.

  • University degree in technical writing, instructional design, or a relevant field.
  • 8 to 10 years of experience in technical writing, including 3 to 5 years of experience in team management.
  • Excellent writing skills in English.
  • Experience designing instructional content.
  • Experience leading project teams throughout the design and development process of instructional software. Ability to share knowledge of instructional design.
  • Experience with the structured DITA format.
  • Experience with conversion into the structured DITA format, an asset.
  • Experience with different types of CMS and HAT.
  • Experience in the software or public transport industries, an asset.
  • Experience working with FrameMaker.
  • Experience working with e-learning authoring software such as Storyline 2, etc., an asset.
  • Good knowledge of French (spoken and written).
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Analytical skills, attention to detail, and good judgment.
