It is privately held and has achieved high double digit annual growth and profitability since its inception.Job DescriptionThis is a remote position within CanadaWhile Radically Improving The Customer Experience, We Are Aiming To Solve The Following ChallengesReporting to the Director of Software Development, the Staff Software Developer Mobile will lead multiple initiatives to bring mobile applications and other native form-factors to the forefront of the SSENSE digital experience.

Recent updates to our technology stack, including a federated GraphQL gateway and serverless infrastructure, and an evolving portfolio of consumer-facing products now position native as a compelling playground to do great work at pace.How might we design a framework for rapidly bootstrapping new native experiences?What reference architecture is ideal for hypergrowth native applications living atop a microservice architecture?What role do new languages play within our native portfolio?

What advances in native technology should we leverage to deploy the highest performing, fault-free software?How might we deploy machine learning natively ‘at the edge’ of these applications, providing dynamic and personalized experiences for our customers?The ideal candidate has the ability to inspire multiple teams to ideate and execute towards a common vision.

In parallel, they will strongly influence the product strategy and direction of the domain.

Finally, this role will raise the bar for quality and technical excellence for a rapidly growing area of the technology organization.ResponsibilitiesSolution development (70%)Lead the development of native development, with a primary focus on mobile applicationsOwn the evolutionary architecture of the mobile domain and coach multiple Technical Leads through decision-makingProvide a robust technical roadmap and facilitate structured, fact-based discussions with Product Management and other stakeholders on prioritizationParticipate in the implementation through proactive collaboration with the development teams by involving them in the design discussions, participating in the sprint ceremonies, conducting code reviews and technical review sessionsProvide architectural designs, proofs of concept, code samples and tools to support the implementationDomain advocacy and continuous learning (20%)Be a figurehead within the domain for scalability, resilience, and reliabilityCreate high accountability within the domainContinuous learning and sharing the knowledge of the latest technologies and trends in mobile/nativeActively contribute to SSENSE University, the internal peer learning platform, in order to promote continuous learningRecruiting and ambassadorship (10%)Participate in HR recruiting events, helping to identify and recruit top talentConduct interviews and document the outcomeAct as SSENSE ambassador in the tech community, representing the company in local meetups, conferences, contributing to open-source, publishing on the SSENSE tech blog, etcQualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical fieldA minimum of 3 years experience building and deploying consumer-facing mobile applicationsA minimum of 8 years experience designing and building software solutionsExtensive knowledge of Typescript programming language, with experience in React Native and SwiftExperience with GraphQL, with emphasis on Apollo Client and/or AWS AppSyncExperience with serverless infrastructure (AWS Lambda) with understanding of cold start management, burst concurrency, and provision controlExpertise with cloud resources (AWS) with the ability to operate them (certification preferred), Edge architecture ( Cloudflare, Ambassador), and ability to use containers and orchestration frameworks (Kubernetes)Strong written and verbal communication skillsSkillsHighly analytical and detail orientedStrong leadership, time management, and problem solving skillsAbility to influence and drive change, with an extreme sense of accountability and ownershipAbility to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiencesSolution-oriented mindset and can-do attitude to overcome challengesAbility to thrive in a fast-paced environment and master frequently changing technologies and techniquesAdditional InformationWORLD CLASS TECHNOLOGY Technology is at the core of everything we do at SSENSE.
