AS/400 Administrator

Our customer, a large-scale company, is looking for an AS/400 Administrator (7918).



  • Set up, to configure and evolve the infrastructure system;
  • Install and manage the systems;
  • Ensure the performance of the systems and to follow-up on the components of the environment;
  • Support the daily maintenance activities of the systems;
  • Diagnose the problems, propose and set up the solutions adapted to the customer requirements;
  • Take responsibility to record any service request or problem, carry out the follow-up until its resolution;
  • Escalate problem, if necessary to the appropriate technical resources (internal systems administrators, suppliers);
  • Take part in the documentation of the technical solutions;
  • Update the technical procedures, escalation procedures and security;
  • Be responsible for the systems analyses of the new needs for client;
  • Take part in the development of solutions aiming at the improvement of the processes concerning the support of the assigned customers;
  • Ensure the services offered according to the evolution of the needs for the customers and technological evolution;
  • Provide on-call support according to the schedule envisaged;
  • Support disaster recovery tests.

  • 5+ years plus of progressive technical experience in the iSeries environment;
  • 3+ years hands on experience with communications configuration on the iSeries; TCP/IP Application Servers such as: SNMP, DDM, FTP, SMTP, HTTP; SSL, Encryption software, APPC connectivity, Virtual LAN and Opti-Connect, MQ experience;
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with iSeries hardware and LPAR configuration;
  • 5+ years of experience with resolving problems of a complex nature in a production environment;
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with performance analysis and capacity planning;
  • Strong working knowledge of third party software and application environments;
  • Experience in High Availability products and solutions 
  • Strong skills as it pertains to current hardware and OS capabilities in the IBM I environment;
  • Ability to configure and understand VIOs/SAN/etc. as it pertains to IBM i specifically;
  • Ability to patch system and all components VIO/SAN/HMC and switches;
  • Performance investigation skills for all IBM i and Power(x) components;
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Ability to understand processes;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple teams
  • Excellent attention to detail on all aspects of service delivery in order to meet Audit and Standard requirements;
  • Good organization skills;
  • PPRC knowledge, an asset.
