Senior Product Owner

This is a Contract position in Montreal, QC posted November 14, 2021.

Founded in Quebec City in 2010, Petal is a dynamic and growing company made up of a team of over 200 enthusiasts who have developed innovative productivity tools for healthcare professionals. Secure messaging, online booking, schedule management, medical billing and hospital console: all on iOS, Android and our online application!

Grow your career and have a positive impact on society by joining one of the fastest growing health tech companies in Canada. You too can help improve patient throughput and capacity management (PTCM), as well as reduce costs in healthcare management. Our contributors are team players, revolutionizing the PTCM market through integrations, automations and innovations.

What you can expect when joining the team

As a Senior Product Owner, you will set the direction of product development in collaboration with other stakeholders, ensuring that business goals and end user demands are met. You will be responsible for prioritizing and helping the team understand the product requirements as a member of an Agile (Scrum) development team. The Senior PO collaborates closely with other stakeholders to ensure alignment with product strategy, vision, and the customer. The candidate will report into the product portfolio’s team lead.

You will be a main point-of-contact for everything related to the product, acting as a bridge between the scrum team and the stakeholders. The Senior PO interprets end user needs into user stories and defines the acceptance criteria, grooms the backlog, and communicates priorities to the teams to ensure the highest business value.

Your daily life

Product Planning

  • Communicate boundaries to describe the realities within which the vision must be realized (e.g. timelines, user personas, quality);
  • Validate UX mockups, define product functionalities and prioritize product backlog;
  • Communicate the business benefits of each individual feature;
  • Assist with the elaboration of Epics and Features into user stories that are granular enough to complete in a single sprint;
  • Write clear acceptance criteria on user stories;
  • Continuously refine the product backlog (e.g. triaging bugs);
  • Conduct demos of new and upcoming functionality.

Product Development

  • Motivate the team alongside the team’s Scrum Master to execute the product vision;
  • Set release and sprint goals and objectives that help fulfill the vision;
  • Attend and actively participate in scrum meetings such as sprint planning, daily scrums, sprint reviews, and sprint retrospectives;
  • Day-to-day support of scrum team members by being available to answer questions to add detail to the requirements;
  • Day to day monitoring of key metrics that help in tracking and forecasting progress on features;
  • Escalate issues to the stakeholders as required.

Product Training

  • On a regular basis, provide additional training to key stakeholders (e.g. sales and marketing);
  • Ensure features have been properly documented to allow for self-learning.

What we offer

We offer very competitive conditions, but we don’t believe that that’s enough to make you happy in the long run. Here’s what makes employees happy at Petal:

  • To be surrounded by a talented and competent team;
  • To work in an environment that values fun, respect and teamwork;
  • To work on a quality product in the dynamic atmosphere of a start-up;
  • To participate in the innovation of a growing Canadian company tackling the improvement of the health system – Nothing less!

  • Comfortable with multi-tasking, context-switch and handling a high volume of work and pressure;

  • You are able to tailor your message about the product to a different audience at any given time;
  • You are able to empathize with real consumer/customer needs and turn that empathy into quantifiable features that deliver business value.
