Technical Draftsperson – Civil Engineering

City of Pointe Claire

This is a Contract position in Montreal, QC posted June 17, 2022.

Reporting to the Supervisor
– Design and Supervision, the Technical Draftsperson designs and draws plans in accordance with applicable standards, using preliminary plans, sketches or notes, and job site surveys; such plans must include all specifications required to facilitate the construction, manufacture, installation, and repair or alteration of facilities, infrastructure, devices and equipment.

The jobholder provides technical assistance in the area of her or his industrial expertise to stakeholders as they carry out various work projects and activities.

General responsibilities and goals:
– Collects the data needed to produce technical and/or graphic descriptions of work components;
– Takes sample measures, distances, depths, dimensions, levels, etc.; compiles this data; and produces a layout;
– Participates in the technical analysis of certain problems; consults device/equipment users; suggests new systems or other ways to correct the problems;
– Draws sketches, diagrams or outlines of structures or infrastructure and their component parts for use in carrying out projects;
– Carries out research using technical documents, specialized reviews, materials catalogues, etc.;
– Analyzes and uses various data, such as surveys and topographical maps;
– Checks drawings to ensure that they correspond to the project data;
– As required, employs various office automation devices to perform certain job-related tasks, using appropriate programming;
– Performs any other related task.

Job requirements: The jobholder must hold a vocational diploma in an appropriate field and have four (4) years of experience acquired through work that has familiarized her or him with the requirements of the Technical Draftsperson position.

The candidate must be knowledgeable in the following areas:
– Principles and techniques of drawing-to-scale or computer assisted drafting (AutoCAD), instruments and graphic representation;
– Symbols, signs and diagrams conventionally used in drafting;
– Bilingualism (spoken English and French; written French).

The candidate must have the skills and ability to:
– Perform calculations;
– Use tools and computer applications specific to the area of work;
– Perceive and represent spatial forms;
– Work in a team setting;
– Observe keenly;
– Carry out research and analysis;
– Work with accuracy and precision.

Schedule: For the period between Thanksgiving and the first (1st) Monday of May: Monday to Friday inclusively, 8:30 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m., minus one (1) hour for lunch.

For the period between the first (1st) Monday of May and Thanksgiving: Monday to Thursday inclusively, 8:00 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m., minus forty-five (45) minutes for lunch; Friday, 8:00 a.m.

to noon.
