Electrical Engineer (Control and Automation)

Founded in 1987, Biothermica is an integrated carbon and energy projects developer, whose expertise lies in the development of highly optimized and customized solutions in the field of air pollution control, biogas and coal mine methane. Biothermica specializes in niche applications involving complex technical challenges. Its air pollution control solutions include the patented Biotox® Regenerative Thermal Oxidation (RTO) technology, which is designed to treat unconventional industrial emissions involving corrosive and / or condensable organic compounds, as well as the VAMOX® RTO technology specially adapted to abate methane contained in the ventilation air of underground coal mines. As an integrated projects developer, Biothermica covers the complete cycle of its projects: financing, technology design, construction, operation, registration of carbon credits and monetization. Among its flagship projects, Biothermica has, among other things, developed, funded and deployed a biogas recovery project in El Salvador under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol, as well as the first project to destroy ventilation air methane released from an active coal mine in America.

Biothermica is looking for an experienced electrical engineer to join its team to support innovative environmental projects. The position is based in Montreal, Canada.

 

Responsabilities:

  • Carry out all engineering and design works related to the electrical power transmission, controls, automation (programming) and instrumentation of various systems developed by Biothermica.
  • Design (in collaboration with the process engineer) and program the systems’ control logic as well as operator interfaces (API / HMI, PLC / HMI systems).
  • Define purchase specifications for equipment and make their selection in order to optimize the systems’ performance and projects’ profitability.
  • Prepare budget estimates.
  • Prepare project documents, including equipment arrangement, layouts for power, communication, cables routing, logic and wiring diagrams, equipment sizing and specifications, maintenance and troubleshooting procedures, engineering reports and tenders.
  • Actively take part in the procurement, construction, commissioning and QA/QC of the systems, ensuring the correctness, quality and cost effectiveness of all electrical work under his responsibility.
  • Participate in the development of an Operational Intelligence Data Structure to continuously tracks and optimizes system performance.
  • Participate in team meetings for the follow-up of projects and the development of Biothermica’s technologies.
  • Work collaboratively with the clients, partners, contractors, engineers, and designers.
  • Participate in the continuous process of consolidating and documenting the company’s technical expertise and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree- Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.
  • Minimum of 5 years pertinent work experience in control and automation.
  • Knowledge of Allen-Bradley CompactLogix type PLCs.- Knowledge of Allen Bradley operator interfaces (HMI), PanelView type.
  • Knowledge of PLC and operator interface programming languages.
  • Knowledge in instrumentation, motor control by frequency converter, PID loop control.
  • Master the MS Office suite and AutoCAD software.
  • Knowledge of Operational Intelligence Data Structure (an asset).
  • High degree of conscientiousness (attention to detail).- Sense of initiative and autonomy.- Ability to work in a team (good interpersonal skills).
  • Interest for innovative projects.
  • Ready to travel outside Canada.
  • Bilingual French / English (Spanish and Mandarin an asset).
