Director, Maintenance of Way

This is a Full-time position in Montréal, QC posted January 9, 2018.

As the Director M0W for the Canadian region, you will be responsible for the management of the capital projects track programs and provide professional oversight and compliance with our corporate policy and regulatory/engineering standards applicable for each of our railways.

Location : Montreal (but can be flexible).

Salary : Salary is based on experience and G&W’s wage scale.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and control the engineering capital budgets for the tracks
  • Plan and control special projects spending
  • Work with the Roadmasters to develop the 5 year infrastructure plan and related budgets
  • Plan, procure, supervise and follow-up for all planned inspections and maintenance (rail flaw, geometry, ditching, rail grinding, etc.)
  • Perform inspections and field work, prepare various reports for executives
  • Plan, direct and coordinate the Track Program’s work plan, review and evaluate work methods and procedures, identify and resolve problems
  • Manage the seasonal utilities gangs in line with the annual plan and aligned with the execution of our capital program
  • Responds and manage railroad emergency response to ensure safe and timely service restoration
  • Interact with regulatory agencies
  • Review and analyzes operating practices, provide recommendation and follow-up

Qualifications

  • Civil Engineering Degree preferably with a specialization in railway infrastructure
  • 10+ years related experience in the maintenance of way
  • Railway knowledge: Canadian Rail Operating Rules, Standard Practices Circulars, track design
  • Position specific skills: working at heights, working in confined spaces, First Aid, emergency Preparedness, transportation of dangerous goods certification
  • Experience in a unionized environment
  • Knowledge of project management accounting
  • Availability to travel Canada & US
  • Bilingual (both written and spoken English and French)
  • Ability to deal effectively with all levels of management
