Supervisor / Team leader

This is a Full-time position in Montréal, QC posted February 7, 2018.

This posting is for a project based in Kitimat, BC (fly-in/fly-out on a 21/7 schedule)
 
The supervisor/team leader will oversee and supervise the day-to-day operations of his team, making sure everyone is puling their weight, distributing the workload evenly and ensuring that motivation and performance levels are maintained.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

– Provide team leadership and coaching
– Create an environment oriented to trust, open communication, creative thinking, and cohesive team effort;
– Provide the team with a vision of the project objectives;
– Motivate and inspire team members;
– Lead by setting a good example (role model) – behavior consistent with words;
– Coach and help develop team members; help resolve dysfunctional behavior;
– Facilitate problem solving and collaboration;
– Strive for team consensus and win-win agreements;
– Ensure discussions and decisions lead toward closure;
– Maintain healthy group dynamics;Intervene when necessary to aid the group in resolving issues;
– Assure that the team members have the necessary training to effectively participate on the team;
– Encourage creativity, risk-taking, and constant improvement;
– Recognize and celebrate team and team member accomplishments and exceptional performance.

Focus the team on the tasks

– Familiarize the team with the job needs, specifications, design targets, the development process, design standards, techniques and tools to support task performance;
– Assure that the team addresses all relevant issues within the specifications and various standards;Initiate sub-groups or sub-teams as appropriate to resolve issues and perform tasks in parallel;
– Ensure deliverables are prepared to satisfy the project requirements, cost and schedule;
– Help keep the team focused and on track.

PROJECT SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

General duties

– Ensure completion and quality of field operations;
– Have knowledge and enforce compliance of regulatory requirements including company HSE policies and procedures (PPE, SWP, etc.);
– Communicate directly and respectfully with workers when witnessing unsafe actions/situations;
– Perform additional duties as assigned by Site Superintendent.

Productivity and Reports

– Dispatch and assign tasks to workers accordingly to Superintendent directives;
– Communicate to workers the expectations regarding on reasonable allowed time for breaks, mobilization to work zone and/or equipment;
– Ensure that all workers are on duty and effective at all time;
– Monitor productivity of operations and working/waiting time;
– Reduce waiting time by dispatching the equipment and by organizing working sequence in a productive manner;
– Report any loss of time or productivity to the Superintendent and collaborate finding solution to reduce lacks of productivity and optimize effectiveness of operations;
– Make sure that tools and equipment used by workers are in good working condition and report any unusual condition or breakdown to the Superintendent;
– Ensure workers take good care of their tools and equipment, including daily clean up and inspections;
– Ensure good housekeeping of working areas at all time;
– 5 to 7 years of experience as a team leader
– Degree in a revelant field or
– Results oriented

– Bilingual (the person needs to be fluent in both english and french)
