Outreach Administrator

The goal of the Indigenous Health Professions Program (IHPP), is to support Indigenous student recruitment and retention, to enhance teaching on Indigenous health issues, and to support the advancement of Indigenous peoples in teaching and administration in the Faculty of Medicine. Under the guidance of the Program Manager, the Outreach Administrator develops and runs outreach initiatives in support of Indigenous student recruitment, in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Program, while ensuring coherence with the University’s mission and culture.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • With the IHPP team, develop and implement an outreach strategy, procceses, and policies to encourage the training of Indigenous students in dentistry, dietetics, medicine, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, social work, communication sciences and disorders, human nutrition and Indigenous health research.
  • Recruit Indigenous students into health fields by developing strong, respectful relationships with Indigenous health professionals, prospective Indigenous students (and their parents/guardians), Indigenous health and education organizations, Indigenous community members, and McGill partners.
  • Organize annual visits to Indigenous communities, primarily within the McGill RUIS, including high schools, health facilities and organizations, CEGEPs and adult education centres.
  • Work with guidance counsellors, educators in local schools, Elders, and local organizations to establish contacts in schools within Indigenous communities in Quebec to promote higher education.
  • Collaborate with the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Education, School of Social Work, School of Human Nutrition and other faculties, as needed.
  • Report of outreach activities to IHPP Program Manager on a regular basis. Generate reports (other than outreach activities), at the request of the Program Manager and/or Program Director.
  • Support and promote ongoing initiatives such as Eagle Spirit Science Futures Camp and Electronic Tutoring & Mentoring (eTM) programs.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations at conferences and meetings on post-secondary health and science education access for Aboriginal learners and McGill initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of social media, digital and print materials with the Communications Office and IHP Program Manager. Contribute to writing and editing of reports, proposals, publications and promotional materials to effectively communicate with target audiences to advertise services, workshops and activities to the university community.
  • Participate in inter-university and national meetings regarding post-secondary education access and support of Indigenous students in collaboration with the Program Manager and/or Program Director.
  • Ensure appropriate inclusion of and sensitivity to Indigenous culture in all activities.
  • Participate in the evaluation process of the outreach initiatives as needed.

Minimum Education & Experience:


Three (3) years’ related experience


Undergraduate degree

One (1) year related experience

Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and traditions and experience working with Indigenous communities and individuals. Excellent organizational skills and professional conduct. Written and oral communication skills in an Indigenous language an asset. . Ability to work independently. Willingness and ability to travel frequently. Valid driver’s license an asset.
