Inclusion Specialist, Day Camp

YMCA of Quebec

This is a Full-time position in Montréal, QC posted February 11, 2019.


The YMCAs of Québec day camps offer fun‐filled activities that are both physically and intellectually stimulating. The Y has long been known for its child development and youth programs. Our activities are designed with the needs and interests of each age group in mind. Our high‐quality day camp programs are offered to numerous children at eight of our Y centres.

Reporting to, and in collaboration, with the Advisor, Diversity and Social Inclusion and Day Camp Manager, the Inclusion Specialist ensures the development, success and implementation of the inclusion program for camp participants with differents needs within the YMCA’s of Quebec day camps. S/he assumes the role of primary liaison amongst the parents, Companions, and Inclusion Supervisor.

S/he supervises, coaches and supports a team of Companions. S/he participates in the full life of camp, including meetings with parents, pre-camp preparation and administrative tasks. S/he establishes and maintains positive relationships with the children, parents and the camp team, and ensures that all participants have a positive YMCA camp experience.


  • Collaborates with Camp Coordinator and Advisor in the recruitment and selection of Companions and creates child/companion pairings.
  • Assists with camp promotion initiatives.
  • Meets parents prior to the beginning of camp to discuss and establish participants’ needs and inclusion plan, if necessary.
  • Assists his/her supervisor with the preparation and delivery of camp training.
  • Acts as a positive role model for all campers, participants and YMCA camp staff.
  • Evaluates companions in conjunction with camp coordinators, monitors and evaluates inclusion process in their center.
  • Be a resource for companions and is the primary liaison for the camp staff.
  • Ensures successful and high‐quality camp inclusion techniques and programming in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Actively participates at camp meetings held by the camp coordinator.
  • Ensures that children are safely supervised at all times and that the camp environment is always safe, secure and clean.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with campers, parents and the camp team.
  • Communicates regularly with parents, and assumes the role of primary liaison for parents, staff and the community.
  • Adheres to the YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedures.
  • Understands and integrates the value of philanthropy in both specific position and Association, and participate in the Annual Campaign and/or other fundraising events.


Location: NDG YMCA

Status: Seasonal

Salary: starting at 14,45$ /hour


March to May: Part‐time – Flexible schedule

June to August: Full‐time – Monday to Friday – 40 hours per week

  • 18 years of age + by the first day of camp.
  • Minimum of three years work experience in a residential or day camp.
  • Experience working with children and youth with special needs.
  • Experience in staff supervision.
  • Experience working in a residential or day camp (an asset).
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Bilingualism (an asset).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • In progress or completion of a collegial and/or university degree in Child Studies, Psychology, Special Care Counselling, Therapeutic Recreation or Education (an asset).
  • Have no criminal record in connection with the employment.
