We are a well-established residential renovation company in Montreal, specializing in high-end residential projects. We are looking for a skilled Apprentice 3 or Journeyman Carpenter (CCQ cards are not required as all jobs are outside of the CCQ decree, but equivalent experience is required) to join our team. If you have strong carpentry and woodworking skills, verified experience in residential renovations, and a passion for working on high-end projects, we want to meet you!
As an Apprentice 3 or Journeyman Carpenter, you will be responsible for performing a variety of carpentry tasks on high-end residential renovation projects, ensuring all work meets the highest quality standards while respecting the design vision and directives from architects and engineers. You will need to work both independently and as part of a team, leveraging each team member’s strengths to accomplish tasks efficiently and to the highest standards. Preference will be given to the most qualified candidates with the most diverse skillset and extensive experience. All work will be based on the Island of Montreal and the Greater Montreal Area.
Key Responsibilities:
Carpentry & Woodworking (100%):
Framing: Construct and install structural elements such as walls, floors, and ceilings with precision and attention to detail, adhering to design and engineering specifications for high-end projects.
Cabinet Installation: Install high-end custom cabinetry provided by our cabinetmaker, ensuring precise alignment and flawless installation in line with design plans and specifications.
Custom Millwork: Build and install custom, high-end millwork on-site, including intricate trim work such as crown molding, baseboards, custom shelving, and decorative elements, ensuring the highest level of craftsmanship.
Flooring: Install high-end flooring materials such as hardwood, engineered wood, and other specialty finishes with a focus on seamless execution and finish.
Windows & Doors: Install, align, and finish custom windows and doors, including hardware installation, ensuring that all work complies with design requirements and is executed flawlessly.
Trim & Molding: Install detailed trim and decorative elements with precision, following the architect’s and designer’s specifications.
Sheetrock & Wall Panels: Install sheetrock and other wall coverings, including products such as KERDI system, waterproofing membranes, cement board for wet areas, or other panels (e.g., fiberglass-backed drywall, greenboard). Ensure all surfaces are prepared correctly for the next steps, such as painting or tiling.
Insulation: Install insulation, vapor barriers, and any other required components in walls, ceilings, and floors, ensuring compliance with design specifications, building codes, and energy efficiency standards.
Ductwork & Vent Exhaust Installations: Connect, extend, and ensure proper placement of ducts. Pierce roofs, brick, or other exterior surfaces to install vent exhausts and other system penetrations, ensuring proper seal and maintaining structural integrity.
Miscellaneous Finish Tasks: Perform additional finishing tasks based on the job requirements and your skill set, including painting, plastering, applying silicone, and sealant work.
Additional Responsibilities:
Install Temporary Protections: Set up temporary protections to keep the job site clean and dustproof, and install protective coverings where necessary. Organize and maintain the on-site shop, ensuring it remains clean and organized at all times.
Receiving Deliveries: Receive deliveries of materials and tools, ensuring they are correctly placed on-site. Place material and tool requests to the Foreman as needed, ensuring work progresses without interruption.
Cleanup & Waste Management: Oversee jobsite cleanup, managing waste disposal and ensuring materials are recycled where possible. Execute ecocenter waste runs with a team mate or independently, ensuring compliance with local environmental regulations.
Work Efficiency: Work quickly and efficiently, respecting the budget and timeline constraints provided by the Foreman without compromising on the quality of work.
General Task Coordination:
Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient work processes and successful completion of tasks according to project plans.
Flag issues as they arise and communicate directly with the Foreman to propose solutions for approval.
Request change order approvals when necessary and maintain clear communication throughout the project.
Always be aware of design and building code constraints, ensuring that all work complies with regulations.
Requirements:
Apprentice 3 or Journeyman Carpenter demonstrated level of experience (CCQ cards are not required as all jobs are outside of the CCQ decree, but equivalent experience is required).
Proven experience in high-end residential renovation projects, with a strong focus on attention to detail and high-quality carpentry.
Expertise in framing, cabinetry installation, custom millwork, trim work, sheetrock and wall panel installation, insulation, ductwork, and finishing.
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and mechanical plans to execute tasks accurately.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills to effectively address issues and collaborate with the team.
Ability to manage time efficiently and maintain awareness of project constraints, including design, building codes, budget, and timelines.
Strong knowledge of safety protocols and building codes in Quebec.
Proven ability to adapt to changes and troubleshoot issues that arise during renovation projects.
Fluent in both French and English.
Personal vehicle required to get to jobsites.
Tools provided.
