Accreditation Officer

Reporting to the Director, Accreditation and Quality Improvement Services, and working in close collaboration with the Assistant Dean, Accreditation, UGME, the Accreditation Officer is responsible for the management of all accreditation-related activities for Undergraduate Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development. The Accreditation Officer carries out activities in order to implement the strategic priorities of the Office as established by the Director. The incumbent conducts research and analysis of accreditation requirements to support decision-making related to accreditation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains expert level knowledge of Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) standards and elements for Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) and Committee on Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education (CACME) Accreditation Standards for Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Acts as a resource person, liaison and advisor by interpreting accreditation-related standards, policies, processes and procedures, responding to inquiries and providing advice to faculty and staff
  • Oversees the element review process: collects, organizes, assesses and reports complex, detailed information required for review by relevant accreditation committee(s)
  • Conducts research and analysis of accreditation requirements to support decision-making related to accreditation
  • Acts as secretary to UGME Accreditation Committee, supports committee in developing agendas, establishing timelines, and ensuring committee-mandated follow-up and sits on other relevant accreditation-related committees
  • Prepares documents and presentation materials related to the accreditation process
  • Anticipates and plans annual accreditation-related activities based on accreditation cycle and requirements. Manages related budget and reconciles accounts
  • Oversees the organization of meetings, workshops, training sessions, accreditation-related reviews, and other events as required.
  • Establishes processes for learner-based self-studies such as Independent Student Analysis, as needed, and ensures logistical support in producing ISA reports.

Education/Experience:

Undergraduate degree

Three (3) years’ related experience

Master’s or Law degree an asset. Policy or project management experience, ideally in an academic, healthcare or other similar setting. Previous accreditation experience preferred. Ability to work successfully and harmoniously with multiple high-ranking individuals and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external in group settings. Superior organizational and analytical skills along with sound judgment. Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, in English and French.
