Purpose The VP, IB Financial Planning & Analysis provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for the financial planning, analysis and reporting of the international banking division for governance and decision-making purposes.

The incumbent does this through: Executing the consolidation and analysis of financial planning and statutory reporting for all countries / regions within IB footprint.

This includes managing the divisional process for forecasting and planning activities and aligning all countries-regions to maintain fluid, accurate and timely information.

Establishing policies/standard for internal management reporting to ensure they comply with best practices and standards and to ensure that there is integrity/consistency with underlying assumptions /drivers when presenting information.

Performing analyses and recommendations with respect to strategic and financial priorities.

This includes insightful, value added analysis on key financial matters and identify opportunities to improve International Banking’s profitability Accountabilities Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

Strategic Financial Partner
– Provide analysis, support and counsel to Executive management related to financial management of the business line.

Leverage strong understanding of product portfolio and business model to provide value-add advice and recommendations.

Conduct financial reviews / investigations of strategic business initiatives including new acquisitions / products / markets with a view to profitability and accounting issues.

Support ad hoc requests from Executive Management, auditors, regulators, rating agencies, research analysts and other external parties as required.

Financial Reporting and Control
– Responsible for internal financial reporting for the enterprise including compiling and updating financial plans, forecasts, budgets, stress tests, business and project pipelines, and other forward-looking financial outlooks or projections.

Identify issues and provide commentary related to quarterly financial results and/or forecasts or projections to Executive Management.

Performance Measurement
– Responsible for defining, developing and maintaining financial measurement processes and a comprehensive business model to provide a fair and consistent assessment of financial performance at the enterprise level.

Financial Analysis
– Provide financial analysis and support by providing recommendations on key business drivers including product/service costing and profitability, process improvement, business and technology investments (etc.) Accounting Control and Compliance
– Ensure compliance with Scotiabank policies and guidelines and regulatory requirements by maintaining an awareness of policies and statutory requirements, following accounting changes in all jurisdictions, providing advice and counsel on accounting issues and monitoring compliance with critical requirements.

Financial Management Information
– Provides leadership on the Financial Management Information requirements for all business lines and develops operational and technical solutions that provide value-added and insightful information with an business line -wide view.

Communicates and incorporates the relevant risk appetite statement and risk appetite measures , in alignment with the Bank’s risk culture, into activities so as to: embed prudent risk taking into day-to-day management, planning and decision-making; implement controls and processes to effectively identify, report and monitor risk; and, ensure timely action is taken to effectively manage and mitigate risks, including prompt escalation of breaches of management limits or risk appetite measures as per established processes.

Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.

Effectively communicates and cascades Finance strategy and objectives in context of divisional plans Education and Experience Professional Accounting Designation and/or MBA Extensive financial analysis and reporting experience is a strong asset.

Strong general management and leadership experience Extensive experience interacting with senior executives and managing relationships with key contacts inside and outside the Bank Fluency in Spanish is a strong asset Working Conditions Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.

Travel internationally may be occasionally required.
