Chief Financial Officer

Millésime is currently looking for a Chief Financial Officer for one of its clients, a leading manufacturer/retailer who sells interior decoration items.

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller plans, organizes, manages and controls all of the company’s financial activities. The incumbent is responsible for leading and supervising a team of 10 people including three direct reports. In this role, the incumbent is responsible for A/P, Payroll and Cash Audit and the timely production of quality deliverables on a day-to-day basis. The Controller is responsible for the coordination of tax returns, audit, budgeting and American and Canadian banking relationships.

The incumbent ensures the accounting control, the financial monitoring and the reliability of the accounting and financial information. The successful candidate is able to develop solid working relationships within the team as well as collaborate with managers in other service lines (e.g. manufacturing, retail, etc.) by providing them with adequate financial reports and relevant indicators in order to carry out the necessary actions and ensure sound financial management.

Given the importance of the company’s entrepreneurial culture, the candidate must be a well-rounded manager, with a deep understanding of business in additional to having strong technical accounting and financial management skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor financial results and analyze results with different reports, ratios, etc.;
  • Manage operational controls and implement rigorous internal controls;
  • Lead the financial budgeting process. Modify and update models/systems to better reflect business operations;
  • Implement and analyze various performance indicators and take the necessary measures with the managers concerned;
  • Analyze financial performance and propose solutions to maintain and develop profitability;
  • Work with Operations Managers to develop budget forecasts;
  • Prepare and manage budgets and financial projections;
  • Present monthly financial reports with relevant indicators;
  • Maximize use of technology to ensure process simplification and improvement;
  • Develop and maintain good relations with auditors and banking institutions;
  • Day-to-day manager of a strong finance and accounting team that serves as partners to operating managers;
  • Coach and develop the finance team members;
  • Foster a positive and professional work environment.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline, such as: accounting, finance, administration;
  • Accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA preferred).

Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years relevant experience in accounting, including 10 years as a team manager;
  • 2 to 5 years auditing experience with major accounting firm;
  • Additional 2 to 3 years industry experience;
  • Experience within a family-owned business (a definite asset);
  • Corporate tax knowledge (a definite asset).

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and experience in cost control and managing operational controls;
  • Extensive knowledge in accounting and finance;
  • Bilingual (oral and written).
